There will be a new national park in the Odra valley

The Lower Oder Valley is to be the 24th national park in Poland

Work on the establishing of the Lower Oder Valley National Park has started - announced the Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment, Mikołaj Dorożała. He added that the boundaries of the park as well as the costs of the project will be clarified during public consultations.

During the meeting of the parliamentary committee for environmental protection, natural resources and forestry, the deputy head of the Ministry of Environmental Protection announced that the first meeting of the team for the creation of the new Lower Oder National Park had been held.

He added that the appointed group of experts is to develop recommendations by the end of October, on the basis of which a public consultation process will be held in three communes, i.e. Kołbaskowo, Gryfino and Widuchowa. He also pointed out that "at the moment there are no projects on the table to create other national parks".

During the consultations, the boundaries of the park will also be marked, taking into account the comments of local communities and non-governmental institutions.

Jacek Bogucki (PiS) was critical of the creation of a new national park. In his opinion, the new protected area will limit navigation on the Oder, which will, among other things, will limit the reloading capacity of the container terminal under construction in Świnoujście.
