Losses in pomiculture

Frosts destroyed some crops

Frosts caused major crop losses. However, the exact extent of the damage is difficult to estimate. The drop in temperature below zero caused the greatest damage to plum, cherry and cherry trees.

Frosts occurred in several fruit-growing regions, including the Sandomierz and Lublin regions.

Cherries, sweet cherries and plums are the trees that bloomed the earliest and set fruit. In some parts, frosts affected apple and pear trees as well as berry bushes. Even greater losses may occur in currants and strawberries.

Plants that have finished flowering and where fruit buds have appeared have the hardest time.

While flowers in the early stage can withstand temperature drops down to minus 4 degrees, in the case of buds, minus 1 degree is enough and they are destroyed.
