Tunnel investments have started on the railways, and cities are planning to expand underground lines. Thanks to planned investments, including a 4 km long tunnel for high-speed railways, the length of these rail lines in Poland will double over the next two decades - according to a TINES study.

The longest network of railway tunnels in Poland was built by the Warsaw Metro. Currently, the capital's network includes two lines with a total length of 41.5 km, and an additional 4 km are under construction as part of the extension of the M2 line to Karolin station. Ultimately, by 2050, the metro network in Warsaw is to include as many as 113 km of tunnels. The Warsaw metro is already the longest underground railway network in Poland and there is no indication that this will change in the future.
In turn, the longest railway tunnel in Poland is the Warsaw cross-city tunnel with a length of 2,262 meters.
