For the fifteenth time, from 27 July to 24 August, the Royal Castle is preparing a summer series of meetings with theatre and music in the historic space of the Kubicki Arcades and in the stunning open-air areas of the castle gardens. As every year, we have prepared a programme that will appeal to various tastes and interests, aimed at both the youngest and the slightly older. The musical repertoire will include both classic works, with Beethoven at the forefront, as well as folk melodies, jazz standards and love songs. Unconventional theatre performances will evoke the spirit of such figures as Bob Marley and Grzegorz Przemyk.

Evenings with theatre
We will begin the meetings with theatre with a musical performance I Was Bob Marley's Wife, in which the role of Rita Marley is played by theatre and film actress Katarzyna Chlebny, performing together with actors from the KTO Theatre and the Mamas & Trawas music band. The story in the reggae rhythm brings closer the figure of the wife of the biggest music star from Jamaica. Despite historical references, the essence of the monodrama is an attempt to create a universal portrait of a modern woman who fights for herself and strives to liberate herself from male domination. The performance also tells the story of a difficult love for a rebellious genius, provoking questions about the limits of devotion, sacrifice and tolerance.
Another theatre proposal is Agnieszka Przepiórska's monodrama You Don't Die in May. The story of Barbara Sadowska – a story about a poet, an anti-communist opposition activist, the mother of Grzegorz Przemyk, killed by the Citizens' Militia officers in May 1983. The title character is shown here at the moment of preparations for the funeral of her beloved son. She is overcome with emotions and memories. The monodrama is a moving story about unconventional motherhood, love that allows you to survive extremely difficult moments, and the desire to fight for justice against all odds.
Evenings with music The musical part of the festival will be inaugurated by the saxophone quartet Nemesis Quartet with a concert entitled Echa Folkloru, whose repertoire will be filled with the most interesting, but also contrastingly different pieces, inspired by the folklore of different parts of Poland. We will therefore hear national dances, folk melodies and popular songs, combined into unique compositions – a synthesis of long-standing traditions and modernity.
During the second of the musical evenings, you will be able to listen to the concert of 13 dates of DaNuta. Rinn love songs performed by Katarzyna Dąbrowska in a duet with pianist Urszula Borkowska. Thirteen energetic songs selected for the program by one of the greatest Polish vocalists provide a pretext for deeper reflection on the subject of love and its various shades - both light and dark. Danuta Rinn, an artist with a comprehensive musical education, sang extremely difficult compositions with ease. The lightness and charm of her swinging are, however, often a trap for those who try to cope with her repertoire. Katarzyna Dąbrowska, however, comes out of this test unscathed, spinning this musical love story in an innovative way.
You will also be able to count the one when Monika Borzym with her band and pianist Krzysztof Dys on stage as unforgettable evenings. The title "old songs" is a selection of unforgettable Polish jazz standards from the interwar period. The enchanting, ever-fresh melodies by, among others, Henryk Wars and Jerzy Petersburski, with immortal lyrics by Julian Tuwim and Marian Hemar, are an integral element of the heritage of Polish culture, the seed of native jazz. Despite the years, the songs have lost none of their charm. The performers have breathed new spirit into them without destroying the authors' intentions. The program includes: Maryla, Pokoik na Hożej, Bezsenna noc, Bez szlaku twa wielkie miłość minie, Miłość Ci wszystkopowiedzy, Moja Warsaw, Nikt tylko Ty, Takie Ciało. The last musical meeting will be devoted to the classics. Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61 by Ludwig van Beethoven and Little Suite, Op. 1 by Carl Nielsen were prepared by the musicians of the Warsaw Camerata orchestra conducted by Paweł Kosa-Nowicki. The soloist will be the excellent violinist Karolina Nowotczyńska. Violin Concerto in D major by Ludwig van Beethoven is one of the most important and most frequently performed solo concertos for this instrument. Little Suite Op. 1 by Carl Nielsen – the greatest Danish composer – is a three-part, compact work, which the author composed in 1888, at the age of just 23. It evokes associations with Scandinavian romanticism known from the works of Edvard Grieg. For fourteen years, the Royal Arcades of Art Festival has been a platform for interdisciplinary dialogue, exchange of artistic experiences and ideas, establishing new contacts, and initiating artistic and cultural activities.
