Exhibition of works by Bohdan Butenko

The exhibition called "Gapiszon in Lengrenówka" was prepared by the Caricature Museum and the Widnokrąg publishing house.

Bohdan Butenko is the author of memorable illustrations, covers, theater sets and posters. They are characterized by conciseness of form, precision, the primacy of concept over ornamentation and conscious use of color and composition. And of course humor! Generations have been brought up on Butenko's lineage. Many people, more or less adults, are moved by looking at well-known characters and frames. But what about those who have not encountered the master's work? With young adults and children?

With this exhibition, we want to bring back Butenko and his favorite character, Gapiszon, to CHILDREN, because it was primarily for them that the master created. We want it to continue to be a point of reference and inspiration. Let the book GAPISZON I... and the accompanying exhibition be just the beginning of a new adventure with the work of Bohdan Butenko. It is a wonderful coincidence that the exhibition is hosted in the former studio of another master of illustration, Zbigniew Lengren, because it is precisely from the workshop side that we want to present Butenko's work.

In Lengrenówka, the workshop of the Museum of Caricature, we will meet Gapiszon in many versions: black and white and in color, silent version and with dialogue, in a beret with an antenna and a striped cap, on original boards, large-format prints, in books and archive issues of "Miś". In addition to illustrations from the book "Gapiszon i...", you will be able to see hand-drawn comics by Bohdan Butenko created over the last 60 years, as well as sketches and a board from another found book with Gapiszon's adventures, which, thanks to the efforts of Wydawnictwo Widnokrąg, will soon be released on the Polish market.

The curator of the exhibition is Michał Spokesman, cooperation – Anna Nowacka-Devillard from the Widnokrąg publishing house.
