The International Geographical Congress is organized every 3-4 years by the International Geographical Union (IGU).
This year's 35th edition was organized in Dublin and is held under the slogan "Celebrating a world of difference". The first congress was held in 1871 in Antwerp.
At the General Assembly of the International Geographical Union on 26th of August 2024, new authorities of this organization were elected.
Prof. Nathalie Lemarchand from France was elected Chair of the MUG. Professor of the Institute of Geography and Spatial Organization of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Dr. Hab. Marek Więckowski, was elected Vice-Chair of the MUG.
This is a great honor for Polish geography. Among the nine candidates from Brazil, India, Japan, Poland, the United States, Switzerland, Sweden, Uganda and Great Britain, the following were also elected Vice-Chairs: Anindita Datta (India), Holly R. Barcus (United States), Bernardo Mançano Fernantes (Brazil).
