The results from several Polish cities are bad or very bad
Results from automatic measuring stations of the Chief Inspectorate of Environmental Protection indicate "bad" or "very bad" air condition (level five and six on a six-point scale) in several Polish cities.
Air quality is "very good" when the PM2.5 index does not exceed 13 µg/m3, and PM10: 20 µg/m3. The air condition is "good" when the measurements do not exceed 35 µg/m3 and 50 µg/m3, respectively.
The permissible level of PM10 is 50 µg/m3 (daily average) and 40 µg/m3 (annual average results). The permissible level of PM2.5 pollution is 20 µg/m3.
Such high concentrations of dust suspended in the air are hazardous to health. It may cause caught attacks or bronchitis, for example. Breathing such heavily polluted air increases the risk of heart attack and stroke. It may lead to worsening of asthma symptoms, circulatory system diseases, cardiac disorders and even cancer.
Suspended dust may contain toxic substances, e.g. benzopyrene, carcinogenic heavy metals, dioxins and furans. When the air condition is - according to the Chief Inspectorate of Environmental Protection (GIOŚ) indexes - "very bad", you should limit walks and outdoor physical activity. It is not recommended to open windows or ventilate rooms.
The concentrations of other pollutants: sulfur dioxide (SO2), carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen (NO2) are within the standards - at measurement points in Szczecin - within the standards.
Air quality can be monitored using an application for mobile devices, available for download from: https://popowiedze.gios.gov.pl/pjp/content/mobile_app
